The story

Once a novice runner, now a determined advocate

Collin Zwickel had never run more than 50 kilometres in a year before 2023. A Vancouver investment advisor with over 15 years in wealth management, he had long volunteered with Big Brothers and Habitat for Humanity, and saw firsthand the children in his city going without meals, sports, or summer camp.

In May 2023 he founded the Happy Kids Foundation on one principle: every dollar raised goes directly to local children's charities. To draw attention to the cause, he chose endurance challenges at the edge of what an everyday athlete can accomplish, applying the same discipline that defines his professional practice. The result, so far: over $202,000 raised, the 2024 Raising The Bar Award at Zajac Nights, and a TEDx stage.

"Having a full stomach, sports to play, and summer camp to look forward to is not something every kid has access to here locally. I want to change that."
